  1. Ever seen the movie SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE? I know this tale with a 'real' version of a monster appearing isn't all that original, but the director's suicidal dedication to his art at the end reminded me of the end of that movie.

Nice art by Paul Reiman as well. Maybe not quite at the heights of that werewolf story you posted a while back, but that one was at a very high mark.

  2. By the way, just got around to reading the Spirit story from a few days back. Prime stuff.

I've always thought highly of Corben's coloring... on his own stuff. His coloring on other people's stuff at Warren can be a little garish, especially over some of the Spanish artists, making the art just a bit too rich. However, as well as his own stuff, I think his coloring does fit well with the over-the-top antics in the Spirit.

That one was presented in EERIE, was it? A trial balloon for the Warren SPIRIT magazine that was to come?

  3. I never realized that Reiman did so much horror work until I started posting these Atlas horror books. He is one of those artist that I like but this story about the Monster was outstanding to me. I love Frankenstein tales. And yes I have seen Shadow Of The Vampire.

I wonder if Corben was instructed to go over the top with the coloring on these tales since Warren was really pushing COLOR in their books around this time?
