These are fun stories & enjoyable reads despite 1) the fact that 'I Spy' has such a weak premise. Mr. Lodge wants Betty to spy on Veronica because... he wants Betty to spy on Veronica. No reason given or asked for. But it's fun to watch Betty to go about her shenanigans and then turn on herself in the end, so no worries. 2) the fact that 'Down Under' ends on a lame, obvious joke. But seeing that it's a lame, obvious kids joke, it fits li'l Jinx just fine, I say, and Joe Edwards sells it with conviction & without apologies. 3) the fact that we have a case of flip-flopping characterization with Mr. Lodge. There are definitely strips where he is proud of the idea of Veronica working, but though his characterization is different here, his personality remains clearly defined. It's pretty much the point of the story where Veronica's concerned: put her in any situation, have her do anything, she's still the same Veronica (or Mr. Lodge or Betty or...)
And, yes, of course, Dan DeCarlo did a great job. If the characters' personalities remain consistent, equal thanks go to him & the other Archie artists.
I believe all these tales where written by the prolific and great Frank Doyle and as I have said before I really appreciate the comments you folks post about these tales. You all are great! I love these old 1960's Archie books. I love them as much as the Marvel comics of the same time. Dan DeCarlo and Harry Lucey are just as important to me as Stan Lee and jack Kirby were in the 60's
