I had older first cousins once removed who had apparently been fans of MAD MAGAZINE having left behind stacks of the magazines and a number of the collections when they moved out of their parental home. For me the TV & movie parodies were things I quickly flipped through and I was also disappointed the filled up so much of each issue. I therefore had little use for Mort Drucker.
However, having since seeing his mystery and even better his war work, I appreciate him a whole lot more. (I also noticed what a big influence he was on Donald Simpson, but whatever...)
Drucker is a great caricaturist I did enjoy his MAD work but the war tales he illustrated for DC were fantastic. I did not realize until I started this blog that he did any work for atlas.
I too remember kids leaving behind or giving me comics back in the day when they weren't considered collectibles just cheap entertainment for kids. The books were way better then...well most of them anyway.
