God DAMN was that beginning violent. Even if no one was shown being actually hurt, it certainly suggested at least Archie was actively trying to kill people.
My favorite line was J.U.G. asking 'How do you spell that?' And so we know 'J.U.G.' & 'A.R.C.H.' aren't just typographical conceits but that it's the letters they're supposed to be saying. Which is, frankly, just bizarre.
This story protrays Veronica in the way I had always thought of her before getting into the Archie stuff these last few years, meaning as a villain. Granted that she's usually depicted as flawed, she's not usually represented as being so antithetical to Archie. However, Archie & gang were nothing if not inconsistent character-wise, though pretty consistent quality-wise, at least during this period.
These are odd stories to read but as a kid I was intrigued by them. They didn't make sense to me in the context of the Archie universe but I accepted them as imaginary stories...as if they weren't all imaginary stories anyway!
