  1. I could picture this tale as part of a Sinbad movie with a Ray Harryhausen creation or two thrown in.

    Thanks for this neat post!

  2. Yeah I miss those old Harryhausen moves. CGI is just not as fun. I remember seeing Golden Voyage of Sinbad at my local theater.
Loved Caroline Munro in that movie!

  3. I agree with you on CGI, if done well it looks great, but too often it is done poorly, done cheaply, or done just badly. CGI can look even more fake than the old techniques.

With the old animation techniques, or even a guy in a rubber monster suit, there's a charm, a feeling 'they gave it the old college try' that can't be matched by CGI. An effect doesn't have to be prefect to be appreciated, we all knew Godzilla was just a guy in a suit, that Harryhausen's creations were foam rubber, but it didn't stop movie fans from loving those movies anyway.

Hopefully the old effects will be rediscovered by new independent film makers who can turn out films that Hollywood would be envious of.

As always, thanks for the post and a chance to put my two cents in. I'm always grateful for that.
